ʻŌlelo Noʻeau #317

The Hawaiian proverb, E kanu meaʻai, o nānā keiki i kā haʻi, translates to "Plant edible food plants lest your children look with longing at someone else’s."

This profound wisdom resonates deeply in the context of food sovereignty and Hawaii's urgent need for independence from mainland sources, a vulnerability recently laid bare by the devastation that swept through Maui.

FOOD SOVEREIGNTY IS THE FUTURE OF HAWAI’I

MauiMirai (mirai meaning future in Japanese) strives to be a living testament to the harmonious interweaving of traditional Hawaiian methods with innovative techniques in soil regeneration, syntropic farming,  and permaculture.

By celebrating and promoting food sovereignty and the restoration of traditional practices, we hope to plant the seeds of change so that our children can see the flourishing fruits of a resilient and thriving community.
